Change your Voice number

This feature isn't available for Voice for Google Workspace accounts managed by your work or school. Learn more about Google Voice account types.

If you already have a Google Voice number, you can change it to a different number. If you don't have an existing Voice number, sign up for Google Voice.

Change your existing Voice number

You can replace your current Google Voice number with a new one for $10.

After you change your number, you can't undo the process or get your money back.

  1. On your computer, go to voice.google.com.
  2. At the top left, click Menu "" and then Legacy Google Voice. Google Voice will look different, but you're in the right place.
  3. At the top right, click Settings "" and then Settings.
  4. Click the Phones tab.
  5. Next to your current number, click Change / Port.
  6. Select I want a new number. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your new number and pay.
  7. After you've completed the transaction, you'll get a few emails with updates and further instructions.

If you want to use your existing mobile number, you can port it into Google Voice. You'll be charged a $20 fee to port your number.

What happens to your information

  • Both your old and new Voice numbers will show for 90 days after the number change.
  • Calls to your old number will forward to your Voice account for 90 days.
  • After 90 days, you'll get an email of the contacts who used your old Voice number.

Keep your original Voice number

You'll be charged a $20 fee to keep your original Google Voice number as a secondary number. If you had previously ported in that now-secondary number, you won't be charged.

Calls and text messages to both numbers will reach you. But outbound calls and texts will only be sent from your primary Google Voice number. You can swap them at any time.

  1. Within 90 days of porting a number, open Google Voice on your computer.
  2. At the top left, click Menu "" and then Legacy Google Voice. Google Voice will look different, but you're in the right place.
  3. At the top right, click Settings "" and then Settings.
  4. Click the "Phones" tab.
  5. Next to your old number, click Make permanent. To confirm and pay, follow the onscreen instructions.
  6. After you pay, the expiration date next to your original Google Voice number disappears.
